When facing His coming execution, Jesus could have prayed, “Father, if I die this way, my disciples will be too afraid to get Your message to all the world. Those who believe what I have taught them will think I must have been a false teacher or You would have protected me.”
Jesus could have listed endless reasons why crucifixion could not be a part of God’s solution to the problems of the world.
B     ut Jesus was Jesus. He believed God and was so willing to trust Him that His prayer was: Not my will, but yours be done (Luke 22:42 NIV).
You and I may have problems which cause us to think that surely God will change our situation. Why would He leave us like this? That would make our life a failure and surely He wouldn’t want that.
God responded to Jesus’ faith. His disciples became mighty leaders in His plan to give the Good News to the entire world. The number of believers quickly became an ever-increasing multitude. Many believers gave their lives rather than renounce their faith in Jesus as The Son of God. They rejoiced and sang of victory in Jesus regardless of what others thought of them or did to them.

 by Merlin Carothers

Yes, Jesus seemed to be defeated, but He had been faithful to God and God was faithful to Him. His disciples also seemed to be defeated when they were beaten, stoned or cast into prison. Sometimes God quickly took them out of prison, but at other times He left them there. But while there they did work that has changed people’s hearts for 2,000 years!
You and I have our opportunities to say, “Not my will but Yours be done.” We too may have reasons to doubt and fear, but we can choose to give our lives to serving God. We can witness to one person, ten, one hundred or more, and they may then witness to one, ten or one hundred thousand more. God has promised to multiply the seeds we sow. There are many ways to plant those seeds! For example, Mary always answers our phone with, “Jesus loves you.”  I answer with, “Praise the Lord.” These are tiny seeds we sow, but if you and I do what we can, God will reap the harvest! When we give a Bible, a tract or book to someone, we are fulfilling part of the same mission that Jesus gave His disciples. God can multiply everything we do!
Remember, your potential for tomorrow is limited only by the decisions you make today.

Old Methuselah lived a looong time – 969 years. Whew! I would not want to live that long. Thinking about this the other day caused me to wonder just how long Merlin and I will live. Have you ever entertained such thoughts?
Usually, when we are young, wondering about the length of our lives doesn’t enter our minds. It’s as if we are invulnerable, incapable of death to our youthful way of thinking – or non-thinking. But as we age we begin to realize just how vulnerable our physical bodies are.
When God created Adam and Eve, He put them into a perfect garden. Their circumstances and environment were perfect. There was no sadness or sickness or death. Best of all, they were in perfect, unbroken fellowship with the Lord. But then Satan came along and ruined everything – he thought. It is because of Satan that this world is so broken and filled with terrible suffering. God doesn’t cause evil to flourish; the Devil takes care of that just fine, thank you.
This brings us – or at least it brings me – to ask the age-old question of why does God allow wars and disasters to happen? He could end all suffering if He chose to. So why doesn’t He?
We do know God is all-powerful. His thoughts and plans for us are really beyond our ability to understand (see Isaiah 55). We simply cannot comprehend His awesome holiness, or the depth of His love for us. Isaiah twice foretells that someday all sorrow will pass away; there will be only gladness and joy (see chapters 35 and 51). Then, of course, God promises in Revelation 21 to fulfill Isaiah’s prophecy.
But that’s someday in the future. It doesn’t change the sufferings of this present time. How can we be victorious over the trials of today? How can we be joyful today?

by Mary Carothers

Paul wrote in Romans 8 that the sufferings of the present time couldn’t begin to compare with the joy ahead of us. He even said in chapter 5 that we should rejoice in our sufferings – because of the spiritual growth they – hopefully – will produce in us. The disciple Peter also urges us to rejoice when we participate in the sufferings of Christ (see I Peter 4:13). Then he reminds us in 5:9 that we are not the only ones going through rough times. Our brothers and sisters all over the world are also experiencing the same kinds of problems. So it must be possible to rejoice always! Otherwise, why would God urge us over and over again to do so? In the short, four chapter book of Philippians, Paul, under the anointing of the Holy Spirit, uses joy or rejoice sixteen times!
What if God takes all our problems and works on them something like a candy factory does when it makes chocolate candy? Chocolate, by itself is bitter, but mix it with sugar and the result is something very good. Not to make light of our sufferings, but God does take sufferings of all kinds and desires to use them to make us beautiful in His eyes. We may not realize the glory He is developing in us until we enter His presence when we’re done with this world. Then we will understand. No matter how long we live, eternity with our Lord is infinitely longer. Jesus assured us in John 16:33 that in this world we would surely have problems. But He also said to cheer up, because He had overcome the world.  Christ in us is our guarantee of victory!
God is working for our eternal good! Someday we will understand the beauty of what He is doing for us and in us. Until then, we walk by faith in Him Who loved us and gave Himself for us (see Galatians 2:20 and Ephesians 5:2).

I wrote to you with a prayer request for my
daughter and her mental problems. I'm so happy
to say that a few days later she looked completely healed and still is. I thank you from my
heart for your prayers and give God the glory
for this wonderful praise report. SALLY, CA

Praise News has been a huge blessing, especially this past year, which was a tough year. Prison
to Praise makes more sense to me now as I am
coming out of a dark season. MARTHA, TX

I need your prayers for God's direction in my

even though I don't always feel joyful!
CHARLIE, OH

I love the Praise News. Praise is so easy to forget in times of deep trouble. SIGNIE, NM

As I sit re-reading and benefitting from the
August 2007 Praise News, I am reflecting on
how much I have been inspired and supported
by Merlin's word and example through the
years! RIA, FL

I receive Praise News but to be honest I normally scan VERY quickly through them. Last
January I read, “But, But, I Don't Like That”,
and was brought to tears. I will definitely read
your Praise News from now on and apologize
for not doing so in the past. Please keep me in
your prayers as the Devil has been bombarding
me with everything you can think of.
LEISHA, E-MAIL

Your articles in Praise News are a real blessing
each month and I look forward to your encouraging and thought-provoking words.
ELIZABETH, NC

Money is tight and I found myself “grumbling”
about my finances. I was reading the February
Praise News and God truly spoke to me on both
counts; grumbling and being sufficient. I just
wanted to thank you and let you know God
DOES speak to His children through both of
you. Your messages have ministered to my heart
and reminded me how much God DOES love
me. THERESE, E-MAIL

Please agree with me in prayer for everyone who
receives Praise News. We receive so many requests for prayer
Some of these requests are for:

Marital problems
Health problems
Financial difficulties
Our military personnel
Family hardships and conflicts
Salvation and healing of loved ones

Nearly every day I do my best to answer letters from people who have serious problems. I try to encourage and advise them, but I know that my words alone are not enough. So I pray that God will take my words and use them. He knows each person and exactly what message will minister to them. When Mary and I prepare articles for Praise News we pray that God will anoint them so the reader will understand what the Lord wants them to know. Please join us in prayer that everyone who reads Praise News will receive something that will help them. Let us agree together that our united prayers will bless each one.
