Nearly everyone wants to be happier than they are.
Most folks think they would be happier if their circumstances were different.
Beautiful and handsome people become older. Relationships sour. Disappointments sneak up behind the unsuspecting. So, God caused the Bible to be written and in it He tells us what can help each of us to be happier.
God has watched people for thousands of years. He knows what is best and what will eventually make us miserable. Throughout life we have gone one way when we should have turned in the other direction. The older we get the more aware we are of the wrong choices we have made.
Then one day our attention is drawn to what God has said. We read His words of wisdom and wish we had followed them instead of going our own way. And then we learn that God can do the impossible. He can take the mistakes we have made and cause them to work for our ultimate good!
Learned men once believed there were 2,000 stars. They were mistaken. Now we know that there are trillions of stars. The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands (Ps. 19:1 NIV).
The more we learn about our Creator the more we understand that He can do anything! His Word shows us many examples of men and women who made terrible mistakes but God used them to do great things.
Most of us have made wrong choices but God can help us learn from them rather than to grieve. If we concentrate only on our mistakes we will not understand what God wants to do for us.
Created by faith, nurtured by faith, growing in faith. Jesus taught His disciples that if they would have faith God would use them to bring joy to many people. Like us, they made many mistakes but they learned that God wanted to forgive them.

      In prison Paul wrote:
We are like sheep awaiting slaughter; but despite all of this, overwhelming victory is ours (Rom. 8:36 TLB).
Nothing will ever be able to separate us from the love of God demonstrated by our Lord Jesus Christ (Rom. 8:39 TLB).
I want to remind you that your strength must come from the Lord’s mighty power within (Eph. 6:10).
Yes, there are wonderful things that God wants us to learn so that we can:
Shout unto God with the voice of triumph (Ps. 47:1 KJV).
You, be triumphant? Yes, God wants to help us be triumphant.
Seek, and you will find. Knock, and the door will be opened (Mt. 7:7).
And so it is with prayer - keep on asking and you will keep on getting; keep on looking and you will keep on finding; knock and the door will be opened (Luke 11:9 TLB).
If we keep on looking, we will keep on finding.       Jesus told His disciples that the Holy Spirit would live in them and teach them. If they would keep on looking they would keep on finding answers.
We can keep learning to believe what Jesus said: According to your faith be it unto you (Matt. 9:29 KJV).
Faith in God is sometimes difficult because we want proof before we will believe. To us, that may seem to be the only reliable way to learn. God gave us His written Word so we could learn what He knows.       Eventually we understand that only our Creator knows what is best.

Last month I emphasized the absolute necessity of the cross and the blood of Jesus in God’s plan for salvation. We do not get to Heaven by our good works, only through faith in Jesus…faith that He has done all that is necessary to redeem us from the penalty of sin.
Yet the Bible has much to say about good works, good deeds. In Acts 9 Dorcas was commended because of her good works. Ephesians 2:10 tells us we are created to do good works. I Timothy 2:10 urges us women to be “clothed” with good deeds. Paul taught in Titus 3:14 that Christians must lead fruitful and productive lives. He tells us in I Timothy 6:18 that we should be “rich” in good deeds. Hebrews 10:24 instructs us to encourage one another to love and good deeds.
Why all this emphasis on good works? Peter tells us one very good reason in I Peter 2:12: We are to live in such a way that our good works will show Christ to the lost.
Have you ever noticed in your own family, or in other families, certain personality characteristics that seem dominant in nearly every member? In some, it’s the “gift of gab”; other families are more reserved and quiet. In some families everyone is sharp in math or they all love to read. In one family, the most noticeable trait is a similar sense of humor. In others, it’s a quick temper.
As members of God’s family, we are supposed to have certain similar characteristics that set us apart from the world. One of those “family” traits is good works. By our actions (as well as by our speech), we give evidence that we belong to God’s family.
We are not our own. We were bought with a price, and that price was the precious blood of Jesus. As Christians we no longer answer only to ourselves; we have the responsibility and privilege to answer to our Father God for our behavior and our attitudes.

by Mary Carothers

Have you ever heard the expression, “Your actions speak louder than your words?” Well, God said it first in Titus 1:16. There He says that although some people claim to be Christians, their actions deny it. If this happens to be true in our lives, Acts 26:20 tells us how to correct this problem. Repent, turn toward God, and by our actions prove our repentance.
No article on works/faith can be complete without mentioning James, chapter two. Many folks are puzzled by the seeming contradiction of his statement: faith without works is dead. Many translations clarify it by using useless in place of dead, so we can better understand what James is saying. He is telling us to be sure that our actions agree with our words. We could paraphrase it ourselves something like this: “You say you are a Christian? Well then, let’s see the evidence of your salvation by the way you live, by your speech, your attitudes and by your actions!”
Attitudes and actions make up our days. They can be Christ-like, reflecting and glorifying Jesus, or they can be carnal – showing that our own nature is still in control. Let’s each of lay aside something we habitually do – such as gossiping, eating too much, losing our temper, criticizing each other, or being lazy. Then let’s determine to replace that bad habit with some attitudes and actions that will cause Christ to be formed in us.

God Has A Positive Answer
You say: I'm not able ~ God says: I am able (II Cor. 9:8).
You say: I'm too tired ~ God says: I will give you rest (Matt. 11:28-30).
You say: I can't go on ~ God says: My grace is sufficient (II Cor. 12:9 & Ps. 91:15).

About 20 years ago I purchased Power in Praise, Bringing Heaven into Hell and More Power to You. I am still re-reading them and they continue to minister to me. Thank you so much for them.
Elaine, DE

Your book What’s on Your Mind? has challenged and inspired my heart. We are constantly bombarded with Satan’s snares and this book gives us a plan of defense to work through it all.     Darnell, IN

I so enjoyed Walking & Leaping and Victory on Praise Mountain. Thank you for your ministry and wonderful books.           Jackie, FL

Among my many books I found an old copy of More Power to You. I had forgotten I had it but the Holy Spirit brought it to my attention at a time when I really needed to read it. Over the years, “just living” had dimmed the message. In the re-reading of the book my Spirit has been refreshed.    Ruth, AR

I really enjoyed Bringing Heaven into Hell. I have read it at least five times and each time I get more from it. Thank you for all you do!
Don, OR

I am a beekeeper and found your book What’s on Your Mind? some 15 years ago. God said, “I am going to use that book to deliver you from fear”. I bought it, and many copies afterwards, as I wore them out or gave them to friends. It has been a “staple” in my spiritual life. God has used the book to keep fear at bay and to keep me clean from sin. Thank you for your obedience to God.         John, AL

I read Walking & Leaping again. I’ve lost count of the number times of reading it. It is my favorite book of yours. I am always in between laughing and crying.  Thank you for sharing that part of your lives. I am recently home safe from a year’s tour of duty in Afghanistan. Please keep me in your prayers.
Floyd, AL
