Some people have fallen on their knees and wept with joy when they first heard about Jesus giving His life to make it possible for them to go to Heaven. Others have heard many times about Jesus’ gift to us but have not decided to believe Him. What causes a person to make a decision to believe in Jesus and to practice what He taught? Is it the Holy Spirit or the Christians they have known? Or perhaps the prayers of others? Probably all of these things.
Some people joyfully respond to Christ’s invitation to follow Him but others hear and ignore what He taught. They may even be convinced that Christians are foolish or deceived.
Christians also have different responses to Christ’s invitation to follow His example. Some believe and accept His gift of forgiveness and are thankful for what He does for us but never seem to grasp the significance of what He asks us to do.
Jesus gave His life for us and asks us to use our lives to help others know Him. When we understand what He has asked of us, we hopefully promise to help get the Good News to others.
He said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the Gospel to every creature (Mark 16:15).
How can we do this? We need the Holy Spirit to give us the necessary zeal to fulfill His command. If you believe in Jesus as your Savior, I urge you to ask God to fill you with the same Spirit that Jesus had. Study what He taught until you too are willing to give your life to help others know Him.

 by Merlin Carothers

God was willing to sacrifice His own Son so that you and I might be with Him for eternity. He asks us to invite His Holy Spirit to control our lives so that we want to lead others to Him. Then we serve Him because of our desire to do so. Pray for zeal to fulfill God’s call on your life.
Jesus doesn’t push us. He leads us as a shepherd leads his sheep. When we decide to follow His example we must make up our minds about how zealous we want to be. We could put off making our decision until it is more convenient for us as Governor Felix did. He told Paul:
Go away for now. When it is more convenient, I'll call for you again (Acts 24:25 NLT).
OR, we can decide right now: “I give my life to help others receive Jesus as their Savior.” It is not important what we do, but it is important that we serve God in whatever ways He makes available to us. At first these opportunities may not seem to be very important, but God tests and tries His servants until they are ready for His next step. He sees when we are learning to:  Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and all your mind  (Deut. 6:5 NIV).

It’s easy and fun to thank and praise God for blessings. And it pleases our Heavenly Father when we do so. After all, every good and perfect gift is from the Father (James 1:17).
Sometimes in church when we are singing praises to Him, we can get caught up in the joyful worship of our mighty God. It’s so easy at those times to thank and praise Him for the love He showed when He died on the cross for our sins. Oh, yes, it’s easy then.
But there will also come opportunities in each of our lives when we are called upon to offer to Him our sacrifice of praise (Heb. 13:15). Verse 16 assures us that this also pleases our Lord.
But, but . . . that’s hard! I don’t like that. I don’t like troubles. I don’t like trials that are designed – by the Lord – to refine and purify my faith (see I Peter 1:6-7). No, I don’t. Because they aren’t fun. I want my life to be filled with pleasure and peace and fun. I want . . . I want . . .
Heavy sigh. How God’s heart must be grieved when He sees that our hearts are filled with I want. Or, I don’t like this God; I want You to change this. The problem so many of us have is that we view every problem or unhappiness from the “right now” perspective. When we were children and wanted something, we wanted it “right now”. Not next week, not even tomorrow. Right now was our point of view.
Unfortunately, as we grow up (and grow older) our sinful nature doesn’t naturally change. We still want whatever we want; only now we can wait – but not very long.
God has a completely different perspective than we do. His point of view is eternal. Hmmm. Eternity. Now, that’s an interesting thought. One thing about eternity – it lasts a lot longer than life on this planet does. Good, bad or indifferent, everything that happens here in this life is TEMPORARY. So I guess what happens in eternity is more important – a lot more important – than what happens here in this life.

So, why are we here? What’s the meaning of this life? What purpose does each of our lives have?
For starters, you were planned in the heart of God long before you were conceived in your mother’s womb (Eph. 1:4). What’s the purpose and meaning of each of our lives? God Almighty wants many sons and daughters (that’s us, those of us who believe in and trust Jesus to be our personal Savior). He also wants a loving relationship with you, me, each of us.
I Peter 1:6-7 tells us that the all kinds of trials we experience will ultimately bring us praise, glory and honor from Him. Well, that is, if we let God accomplish what He wants to, in our lives and hearts.
Here is where the sacrifice of praise (Heb. 13:15) comes in. The very real sacrifice of giving up our desire to complain, in order to let God fulfill His will, His plan in our lives.
Did you know that in several places the Bible calls Christians the Bride of Christ? Check out Isaiah 62:5, John 3:29 and Revelations 19:7&8.
He has a glorious future planned for those who follow and obey Him.
When we enter into eternity and hear those thrilling words from our Lord, Well done, thou good and faithful servant, we will be so very glad we let God be Lord in our lives.

Mary's article in the October Praise News, What About Anger? was such a powerful Bible-based message on anger and the power of forgiveness. I shared it with my Christian sisters and they appreciated it equally as much as me. ADRIAN, OR

I was handed Prison to Praise and have read it from
cover to cover. I was very much inspired. I now thank God for who I am, and what I face each day. God's purpose is not ours to question. I thank you and I praise God for you and what you are doing for people like myself. I passed the book on to my friends and they are also very inspired.

I went through a really dark period. I was in a “dark hole”. I asked the Lord to please help me. I went to a yard sale at a church near my home and picked out several books for 10¢ each. Later I thought, why in the world did I buy those books, I don't even like to read. As I started to put them away I saw one book, it was bright yellow and it caught my eye. The title was
Power in Praise. I thought that is just what I need - power! By the end of the second page I knew that God had answered my prayer. I have given away many copies of that book. Thank you for your little “yellow” book.

You donated 100 Prison to Praise for my visit to jails in Illinois. The chaplain at the Youth Center in Joliet was in prison twenty years ago and the Lord saved him. Each inmate is in a small cell with heavy metal doors and only a small heavy glass window to look out
of. I believe the Lord went before us as I was well received. Thank you for your book donation.
BOB, IL

We could use a new supply of praise books for our prison ministry. I also use your books in a four week course I teach to substance abuse patients.

God has often revealed what He will do for us. In 1663 Thomas Watson wrote:
All things work together for good (Romans 8:28)
“What will satisfy or make us content, if this text will not? This expression, 'work together' refers to medicine. Several poisonous ingredients put together, being tempered by the skill of the apothecary, make a sovereign medicine, and work together for the good of the patient. He who loves God may rest assured that every thing in the world shall be for his good.
Why should a Christian destroy himself Why should he kill himself with care when all things shall
sweetly concur, yea, conspire for his good. The result of this text is this. All the various dealings of
God with His children do by a special providence turn to their good.”
